Shikhar Dhawan (born 5 December 1985) is a former Indian cricketer who played as a left-handed opening batsman. He was part of the Indian cricket team for ten years and also played for Delhi in domestic cricket. Dhawan has the highest batting average of 65.15 in the ICC World Cup and Champions Trophy among players who have scored at least 1000 runs in this tournament. He was named the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and was India’s highest run-scorer in the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

Dhawan made his One Day International (ODI) debut in October 2010 against Australia in Visakhapatnam. He made his Test debut against Australia in Mohali in March 2013, where he scored the fastest century on Test debut, scoring 100 off just 85 balls and ended his innings with 187 off 174 balls. This is still the highest score by an Indian cricketer on Test debut.

In August 2013, Dhawan scored the then-second-highest individual score in a List A cricket match, scoring 248 off 150 balls for India A against South Africa A in Pretoria. During the 4th ODI against South Africa in Johannesburg, he became the first Indian to score a century in his 100th ODI match and ninth overall. On 14 June 2018, Dhawan became the sixth cricketer, and the first from India, to score a century before lunch on the first day of a Test match, which he achieved against Afghanistan. On 24 August 2024, Dhawan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Shikhar Dhawan was born on December 5, 1985 in Delhi, India to Mahendra Pal Dhawan and Sunaina Dhawan in a Punjabi family. He studied at St. Mark’s Senior Secondary Public School in Mira Bagh, Delhi. He started learning cricket at the age of 12 at Sonnet Club under the guidance of coach Tarak Sinha, who has trained 12 international cricketers.
