Vaazhai is a 2024 Tamil movie released, written and directed by Mari Selvaraj, who also helped produce it. The film is a children’s drama and was produced by Dzuni + Ausudar, Navvi Sutudiosu and Farmers Masudar Plan Productions. In it J. Along with Satish Kumar, Divya Duraisamy, Janaki, Priyanka Nair and Nivedita Rajappan, the debut actors are Ponvel M., Rahul R., Kalaiyarasan and Nikila Vimal. The story is inspired by Selvaraj’s own life, depicting his struggles working on a banana plantation while going to school.
This is Navvi Studio’s first movie, initially called Production No. 1 and announced in November 2022. The official title was announced soon after. Filming began in November 2022, mainly in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli, and was completed by mid-January 2023. The music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan, with Theni Ishwar as the cinematographer and Surya handling the first edit.
Vaazhai released in theaters worldwide on August 23, 2024. It received positive reviews for Mari Selvaraj’s direction and the performances of the lead actors.

Movie Plot
Vaazhai is set in a small village in the south and follows a young boy named Shivanandan. He attends school and supports his family by working in the banana fields. The film shows his struggle with poverty, his friendship and his life as he deals with the harsh conditions of the village and social issues that test his decisions.
